Bold words inside of quotes will be indicating that they have more meaning, those meanings can then be found elsewhere through out the scriptures that the LDS Church distributes.
-- I urge all who might start reading this blog to read all the scriptural references without prejudice. Even if you do not believe in our religion I assure you, you can still find truths that you'll agree with.--
John 3:3
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Veryily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
What is the difference between seeing the kingdom of God and entering the kingdom of God?
"But blessed are the poor who are pure in heart, whose hearts and broken, and whose spirits are contrite, for they shall see the kingdom of God coming in power and great glory unto their deliverance; for the fatness of the earth shall be theirs." D&C 56:18 (emphasis added)
We must be pure in heart, whose hearts and broken, and whose spirits are contrite in order to see the kingdom of God.
"Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." John 3:5
So in order to see the kingdom of God we must be pure in heart, with broken hearts and contrite spirits. In order to enter the kingdom of God we much be baptized of water and of the Spirit.
Baptism of water is pretty simple. It is remarkable though because it symbolizes the part womb part of our natural born bodies.
To be born of the Spirit does that entail or imply something more profound is going on other than just the conversion of ones soul to Jesus? We must have pure and broken hearts along with contrite Spirits. I understand needing to be humble, teachable, before we can see and understand more of the mysteries and truths of God's kingdom but what is it to be contrite? How can we have all three? What are the differences and why was it important to list all three? My answers are up for speculation.
- Concept; Speculation of definition
- pure heart; love for Christ
- broken heart; sorrow for our sins
- contrite spirit; humble attitude
When I clicked on the word changed it took me to the Topical Guide which says it means Sanctification.
We take upon us His name, and we are blessed with the Holy Ghost but it isn't until we have had a baptism of the Spirit that we truly become born again. And through this Spiritual rebirth we can be sanctified.
"even so ye must be born again into the kingdom of heaven, of water, and of the Spirit, and be cleansed by blood, even the blood of mine Only Begotten; that ye might be sanctified from all sin . . ." Moses 6:59
Even going down into the water is a symbol of our old life and sins dying. We truly come forth freshly cleaned of all our old spiritual selves to a fresh start. When we are born again we are filled with warmth and passion for the Savior and God's glory! The Lord refers this to baptism by fire. I think that is so accurate because the burning desire to share His word causes us to feel excited, and one might say "fired up."
That may be where the saying came from?
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.. . that the world through him might be saved." John 3:16-17
God loves us so much He sent down the savior to make sure we all could return to Him. He does not want to be without His children.
It is now up to us to either accept His will and follow Him or turn away. May we all have the strength and courage to have all three; pure heart, broken heart and a contrite spirit.
Very insightful! ;)
